Dr Shruti Kumar

• The IAP fellowship in developmental and behavioural Pediatrics has played a key role in my medical career and has given me a unique opportunity to learn and practice those untouched topics in pediatrics which pediatricians are never exposed to and are todays growing need of the society. It also has given a ray of hope for families in my state of Uttarakhand with atypically developing children who had no one to look upon.

• In this holistic 1-year training program of fellowship at Bharati Vidyapeeth Pune I was trained not only to manage patients with developmental and behavioural concerns but also was groomed to work as a team leader, to have empathy and yet have a scientific bend. The art of counseling was something which can never be learnt from textbooks. It is only by observing our mentor each day we learn.

• My mentor Dr Leena Srivastava was my inspiration and besides the traditional teaching she also motivated me to learn and to innovate and these pearls of wisdom and life skills have led me to where Iam today and have always kept me growing.

• As a faculty in medical college and the only developmental pediatrician of my state of Uttarakhand I thank the chapter for giving me this opportunity of learning which now I can pass on to the next generation and help children and families of my state who earlier had to travel long distances to seek help.
