Srinivasa Raghavan

• I completed my IAP Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics fellowship from Christian Medical College, Vellore, in the year 2020.
• I was passionate about pursuing Developmental Pediatrics from my postgraduate days. But there was no structured, full time program for pursuing Developmental Pediatrics back then. IAP Fellowship program on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics was unique in that way. I was happy to have had the opportunity to learn further on the field of my interest, and I thoroughly enjoyed the course.
• The IAP Neurodevelopmental Chapter office bearers as well as the course coordinator were very helpful right from the beginning. It was a great opportunity to study under Dr. Samuel Philip Oommen and Dr. Beena Koshy, who mentored me during the course. Even during pandemic times, meticulous efforts were taken to conduct a thorough exit exams. The exit exam is rigorous and fair, standing as a testimony to the quality of the fellows who pass out.
• Over the last two years, the IAP NDP chapter has taken more efforts to conduct joint academics and courses on Epidemiology and study design for the fellows. The joint sessions provide opportunities for fellows to interact and learn from subject experts. A thesis has to be done as a part of the course requirement; again there was timely communication from the chapter regarding thesis, and my mentor in the institute guided me with the thesis.

• To keep up with the emerging literature, regular journal clubs are held. There is a common Whatsapp forum on which educative journal articles are shared too.

• The curriculum was well designed. Although 1 year course definitely gives a good understanding of common developmental and Behavioral problems we are likely to encounter in our day to day practice, my humble opinion is to continue to work with the same unit for a year or two more to get a thorough understanding by providing opportunity for follow up of the children with needs and their families.

• The course inculcated further interest in this interesting and much-needed field of Child Development. I am extremely thankful to Developmental Pediatrics unit, CMC, Vellore and IAP NDP chapter for this opportunity.
